Puno and Lake Titicaca
Lake Titicaca, located at 12,500 feet (3,810 meters) above sea level, is the world’s highest navigable lake. Shared by Bolivia and Peru, this magical place is sure to inspire awe and wonder to all who visit. Puno is situated on the shores of Lake Titicaca, and is famous for it's vibrant culture. A great place to visit in February for the Virgen del Candelabra Festival and Carnaval, Puno can be enjoyed for its many traditional dances and costumes.
Lake Titicaca is an incomparable place, its deep blue waters have been the source of legends for centuries. The waters are said to have given birth to Manco Capac, who went on to found Cusco with Mama Ocllo by plunging his staff into the earth and declaring the valley as the "Navel of the Earth."
There are various different cultures who call the lake home, and many of these cultures are still living traditionally on floating totora-reed islands. Take a trip across the lake and visit some of these amazing islands and peoples.
